Police are appealing for information after a theft and fraud in Newcastle.

On Wednesday, September 9, a woman was loading her shopping into her car at the Tesco store in Kingston Park when she was approached by man who began chatting to her.

The man distracted her while another person stole the woman's bank card from her purse that was inside her car.

The victim did not notice that her card was missing until later that day and reported it to police.

Enquiries were carried out and police found that the man had used the stolen bank card to withdraw money from the cash machine at the Tesco store before trying to obtain money from the foreign currency exchange desk inside the store and then again at the ASDA store in Gosforth. On both occasions they were refused cash.

Enquiries are ongoing into the incidents and police are warning people to be on their guard to the scam.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 101 ext 69191 quoting reference number 850 09/09/15.
