Burglary in Hexham

Police are appealing for information after an aggravated burglary in Hexham.

At 4.30pm on Monday, December 14, police received a report of a burglary in Ovington Lodge Farm Cottages, Ovington. The offenders forced their way into the property carrying bats before being disturbed by the resident. They then made off empty handed via the fields to the rear of the house.

The resident was left shaken by the incident but not injured.

Officers are carrying out enquiries into the burglary and are appealing for any witnesses to contact police.

Detective Inspector Dave English said: "We have extra officers in the area carrying out enquiries and speaking with people to offer reassurance.

"We believe the offenders were driving a dark coloured Ford Focus shortly before the burglary and we appeal to anyone who may have seen a car of this description acting suspiciously in the area to contact us.

"Anyone who has concerns is asked to speak with an officer face to face or via 101."
