Appeal after Hetton Post Office burglary

Police investigating a burglary to a post office in Hetton are continuing to appeal for information.

At 2:34am on Tuesday, December 22, police received a report that a vehicle had driven into the front shutters of the Peat Carr Post Office in Airedale Gardens.

The offenders then got inside the premises and stole a cash ATM from inside before making off.

The vehicle they used was a red Honda CRV - registration number R367 KRG - this was found having been abandoned in Broomside Lane in Belmont, County Durham, at 9:50pm on Tuesday night.

The ATM was also found in the grounds of Elemore Hall school in Pittington around the same time.

Enquiries are ongoing into the incident and anyone who saw the Honda in the area around Airedale Gardens or Broomside Lane, or who has any information into the burglary, is asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference number 74 22/12/15.
