A Newcastle burglar will be spending the next four years behind bars thanks to the good work of detectives.

Wayne James Bellerby, who is 34 and from Stanton Street in Newcastle has been jailed for four years for committing a burglary in Walker.

In April he broke into a flat at The Ropery and stole a laptop computer and golf clubs.  Enquiries were carried out by detectives and Bellerby was arrested and later charged with the burglary.

He pleaded not guilty to the offence, however after a two day trial at Newcastle Crown Court (on December 3rd) he was found guilty and sentenced to serve four years in prison.

Central Area Detective Inspector Alan Cairns said: "This was a really good investigation by the burglary team and after some great work they were able to identify Bellerby as responsible and get him arrested and charged.

"Bellerby is a habitual criminal with an atrocious record and having him behind bars will go a long way in helping us continue to reduce burglaries in the Newcastle and Gateshead areas.

"Burglary is a horrible crime to have to suffer and I want to reassure residents that the burglary team will do all they can to keep burglars off our streets and get them behind bars."
