Woman assaulted in South Shields

Police are appealing for information after a woman was assaulted in South Shields.

The incident happened between 6.45pm on Monday, December 28 and 7pm on Monday, December 28 in the pathway between Farnham Road and Egerton Road that runs behind the dairy in Egerton Road.

The woman, aged 56, was approached by a group of youths who asked her for a cigarette and to buy alcohol for them, the woman refused and was pushed to the ground.

She suffered minor injuries as a result of the fall.

It's believed some of the youths were on bikes.

Officers are carrying out enquiries and appealing for any witnesses.
