Shop robbery in Gateshead

Police were called to the Local News shop, Brookfields Terrace, Pelaw in Gateshead on Friday, January 8,  following reports of a robbery which had taken place at 6.30am.

A man walked into the shop armed with a knife and stole an undisclosed quantity of cash from the till before leaving. The member of staff who was in the shop was shocked but otherwise unhurt.

The offender is descried as a white man, 5 feet 8" tall, wearing a black woolly hat and dark clothing carrying a knife.

Officers are investigating and carrying out house to house enquiries in the area.

Police are appealing for witnesses anyone who was in the area and who may have seen or heard anything suspicious is asked to contact police.
