Two men have been jailed for burglary.

On Wednesday (January 6) two men were arrested after a burglary at Revolution in Low Row in Sunderland. A window at the premises was smashed and alcohol stolen.

Ricky Don Elliott, aged 39, of Donnison Gardens, in Hendon and Daniel Bates, aged 33, of Tatham Street, in Sunderland city centre, were subsequently charged with burglary and appeared at South Tyneside Magistrates' Court on Thursday (January 7).

Both men were sentenced for 16 weeks.

Detective Inspector Paul Stewart said: "These sentences just go to show how seriously ourselves and the courts take burglary and should act as a warning to burglars that they will face time in prison for their actions. Burglary can be an incredibly distressing incident, especially when people's homes are targeted and our message to burglars is simple - we know who you are, we are watching you, and we will catch you and make sure you are put before the courts."
