Man charged after sexual assaults in Gateshead

This is an update in relation to the man arrested in connection with a recent number of sexual offences in Gateshead.

Atupele Winston Lamba, 25, from Gateshead has been charged with 11 counts of sexual assault.

He appeared at Newcastle Magistrates' Court on Saturday morning and was remanded in custody.




Police have arrested a man after a number of sexual assaults in Gateshead.

In the last couple of days officers have received a number of reports that a man had approached women and touched their bottoms before running away.

These offences happened in Gateshead town centre and the area near to Felling Metro station.

An investigation was launched and after an operation ran by Gateshead Neighbourhood Policing team and 24/7 officers a 25-year-old man was today arrested on suspicion of sexual assault.

He is currently in custody helping with enquiries.
