Northumbria Police has successfully applied for a closure order on a premises selling so called legal highs in Sunderland.

On Monday (February 1) police issued 11 Fawcett Street in the city centre (which had previously traded as Hippidrome) with a closure notice - closing the shop for 48 hours. Police took the action after concerns were raised about anti-social behaviour caused by people taking substances believed to have been sold at the shop.

Today (Wednesday, February 3), a court granted a closure order after the district judge was satisfied the use of the premises had caused serious nuisance to members of the public.
