Police are now in a position to name the man who died following a collision between a Ford Transit van and a Suzuki Jimny on the A69 near Heydon Bridge yesterday morning (Monday).
He has been named as Kevin Capstick who was aged 37 and lived in the Consett area of County Durham.
Enquiries are ongoing into the incident and anyone who witnessed the collision should contact police on 101 quoting reference number 144 15/02/16.
Police are appealing for witnesses after a fatal collision in Northumberland.
At around 7am this morning (Monday) we received a report of a collision between a Ford Transit van and a Suzuki Jimny on the eastbound carriageway of the A69 at Haydon Bridge.
Emergency services attended and found that the male driver of the Jimny had suffered serious injuries. He was treated by paramedics but was sadly pronounced dead.
The driver of the Ford Transit was injured in the incident and taken to hospital but his injuries have been described as non-life threatening. There were no other passengers in the vehicles.
Both carriageways were closed for around three and half hours as a result of the collision which caused heavy congestion in the area.
There have also been problems on the military road as a result of the collision and motorists are now encouraged to use the A69 which has now been re-opened.
