Police appeal after attempted robbery in Gateshead.

At 9pm on Tuesday, February 16, a man entered the William Hill betting shop in Sheriffs Hill armed with a hammer.

He threatened the cashier demanding money. He struck the Perspex security screen above the counter before leaving the store empty handed.

No one was injured during the incident however the staff member was left extremely shaken.

The offender is described as being white man, who was wearing a balaclava, black jacket with a black hooded top underneath, jeans, white trainers and a pair of grey gloves.

Anyone who was in the area at the time of the robbery and who saw anyone, or anything, suspicious is asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference number 1083 16/02/16.
