Police investigating a fatal collision in Gateshead are appealing for two drivers who might have information to contact them.

At 12.45pm on Tuesday, January 26, William Raine, who was 83 and from Bircham Drive in Blaydon, was knocked over by a Nissan Micra while crossing the road at the bottom of Shibdon Bank (Clavering Road).

He was taken to hospital but sadly died as a result of injuries sustained during the collision.

Enquiries are ongoing and motor patrols officers are releasing an image - taken from a dash camera of a car on Shibdon Road - that shows two cars who were in the area just before the collision took place.

Officers want to identify and speak to the drivers of these two cars, believed to be a grey / silver Toyota Avensis and a red Ford Focus, as they may have witnessed the collision and could be able to help officers with the investigation.

The drivers of these cars, or anyone who thinks they know who they might be, are asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference number 474 26/01/16.
