Man arrested after hit and run collision in Longbenton

This is an update in relation to a hit and run collision in Longbenton that happened on Sunday February 21.

Police have arrested a 28-year-old man on suspicion of failing to stop after an accident.

He has been bailed pending further enquiries.



Police are appealing for witnesses after a hit and run collision in Longbenton.

At 6.40pm on Sunday, February 21, a car collided with an eight-year-old boy in West Farm Avenue directly opposite the Boulevard shopping centre.

The car failed to stop at the scene and drove off.

The boy was taken to the RVI hospital with a serious leg injury where he remains.

The car involved is believed to be a silver coloured VW Passat car.

The car is likely to have damage to the drivers side or the front and may have a damaged wing mirror.

Enquiries are ongoing into the collision and police are appealing for anyone with any information to contact them on 101 quoting reference number 0891 21/02/16.
