House fire in Houghton - one arrest

Police investigating a house fire in Houghton have made an arrested.

A report was received from Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service shortly after midnight this morning (Wednesday, March 2) of at a house in Waller Terrace.

Two people were taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital for treatment for smoke inhalation. They have since been discharged.

A 45-yer-old man has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent. He has been released on police bail.
