Youths charged after Elswick Health Centre burglary

This is an update in relation to the break-in at the Elswick Health Centre in Newcastle that happened on Tuesday March 1.

The two 14-year-old boys arrested in connection with the incident have been charged with a number of offences including affray, criminal damage, assaulting police officers and burglary.

They were remanded in police custody to appear at North Tyneside Youth Court on March 3.

Northumbria Police will not tolerate these actions or the behaviour that was witnessed on Tuesday evening.

It caused a lot of disruption to the local community and all incidents of this nature will continue to be dealt with robustly.



Police have arrested two youths after a break-in at the Elswick Health Centre in Newcastle.

At 8:57pm on Tuesday, March 1, police received a report that the Elswick Health Centre in Meldon Street had been broken into.

Officers attended and found two youths on the roof of the property.

Attempts were made to negotiate the youths down from the roof however they began throwing objects at the police and members of the public and a small cordon was set up around the area to ensure no one was hurt.

At around 11:45pm officers arrested the two youths, both aged 14, on suspicion of joint burglary.

Enquiries are ongoing into the incident and patrols are being carried out in the area to reassure the local communities.

Staff from the Elswick Health Centre are currently assessing the amount damage caused during the incident.
