Bogus caller incident

Police are appealing for information after a bogus caller incident in Sunderland.

The incident happened around 10.30am yesterday moring (Wednesday, March 16) in Side Cliff Road in the city. A man called at the address and told the occupant the guttering needed repairing, she gave him money to carry out the work however he walked off with the money without doing any work.

He is described as in his 40s or 50s, medium build with short dark hair. He was wearing dark overalls and a jacket and was in a silver van.

Officers are carrying out enquiries and appealing for anyone who was in Side Cliff Road and saw the man, or may have been visited in similar circumstances, to get in contact.

Residents are also reminded to be on their guard that bogus callers are operating in the area and be cautious to people who call at the door unanounced - if any doubt they should turn them away and contact police.
