Grass fire in Northumberland

Police are carrying out enquiries after two people were injured after a grass fire in Northumberland.

It happened at around 12pm on Friday, March 25, when a woman and a girl who were walking in Simonside Hills sustained burn injuries resulting from controlled burning which got out of control near Dove Cragg.

The woman and her daughter were taken to the RVI hospital where they are believed to have suffered serious but not life threatening injuries.

Officers are working closely with the Forestry Commission, Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service, and Northumberland National Parks Authority to establish the circumstances into the incident and to ensure public safety.

Enquiries into the incident are on-going and anyone with information to help is asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference 0274 29/03/16.
