Police investigating reports of criminal damage at a South Shields car wash are reassuring residents they do not believe it is linked to other incidents in the area.

Overnight on Tuesday March 15 into Wednesday March 16 liquid containers and windows were damaged, possibly by an air weapon, at Boldon Lane Hand Car Wash in Boldon Lane.

No-one was at the premises at the time and no-one was injured.

Last year there were two incidents at a car wash in Winskell Road in the town. There has been speculation the incidents are linked, however, officers are keen to stress they do not believe this is the case.

South Shields Neighbourhood Inspector Paul Young said: "We know our communities may be concerned and are taking steps to offer additional reassurance that we do not think this latest incident is linked in anyway to previous incidents at car washes in the town.

"Enquiries are ongoing into the incident and we would ask anyone who has any information to come forward and pass this on to us."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Northumbria Police on 101 quoting reference 177 160316 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
