Man robbed in Gateshead

Police are appealing for information after a robbery in Gateshead.

Between 2:45am and 3:30am on Sunday, April 4, a 44-year-old man was walking along Askew Road West when he was approached from behind by two men and assaulted.

The incident happened near to the underpass leading to Victoria Road.  The two men stole cash and the man's mobile phone before fleeing.

The victim suffered a number of facial injuries that required hospital treatment.

The first attacker is described as being white, around 5ft 7ins tall and aged around 18 to 20 years old. He was of medium build and was wearing a black cap, navy blue hooded top and black tracksuit bottoms.

The second is thought to be white, around the same age as the other man but slightly taller at around 5ft 9ins tall and of a skinnier build.

Anyone with any information into the robbery is asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference number 274 10/04/16.
