Appeal after attempted shop robbery

Police are appealing for information after an attempted robbery in Gateshead.

Around 8pm on Monday, April 11, two men entered the Whitehall Convenience Store in Rawling Road.

One of the men brandished a hammer and told the staff member to hand over money. The staff member refused and the two men fled the shop empty handed.

The two men are believed to be in their late teens and the man with the hammer is described as being white, around 5ft 11ins tall with mousey brown hair and a clear complexion. He was wearing dark blue tracksuit bottoms and tracksuit top that was pulled up covering the lower part of his face.

The other man was also around 5ft 11ins tall and with a young looking face. He was also wearing a dark blue tracksuit top that was pulled up covering half of his face.

Enquiries are ongoing into the incident and police are appealing for anyone who was in the area of Rawling Road around 8pm on Monday evening and who saw anyone matching the description to contact them on 101 quoting reference number 1020 11/04/16.
