A Newcastle man has been jailed after an attempted murder at Newcastle Quayside.

In July 2015, 41-year-old Fraser Winton from Pandon Gate House in Newcastle, was found covered in blood in a carpark on the Quayside.

Police responded and subsequent enquires led to them to Winton's home address where a man was found with stab wounds to his throat, chest and head.

The man was taken to hospital where he received emergency life saving surgery.

Winton was arrested and later charged with attempted murder of the man.

He appeared at Newcastle Crown Court on Friday, April 8, where he was sentenced to 14 years.

Detective Inspector Michelle Robson from Central CID said: "Winton is a dangerous man who will now spend a considerable amount of time behind bars.

"Detectives worked incredibly hard pulling the case together and on sentencing the judge praised the hard work and determination that went into securing this conviction.

"It's thanks to their efforts and meticulous work that Winton is now off the streets and is no longer a danger to the public."
