Two people have been jailed following an assault in Tynemouth.

Anthony White, 33, of Addison Street, North Shields and Debbie Larmouth, 27, of , Dawson Square, Tynemouth, were at Tynemouth Station on the night of Thursday, October 15, 2015, when they encountered their victims.

They approached two men, aged 52 and 45, before assaulting them in an unprovoked and violent attack leaving one of the men with facial injuries and a broken hand.

At Newcastle Crown Court yesterday, (Wednesday, April 14), White and Larmouth were each jailed for 20 months for assault.

Superintendent, Mick Paterson, said: "This was an unprovoked attack on two men who were simply walking home after enjoying a meeting in Newcastle. I welcome the sentences handed down which show how seriously incidents of this nature are taken."

"Violence in our communities will not be tolerated and the streets of North Tyneside are a safer place with them behind bars.

"We commend the bravery of the two victims after what has been an incredibly distressing time for them."

Anyone with concerns is asked to contact police on 101.
