Police are appealing for information after a rape in Newcastle.

Sometime between midnight and 3am on Saturday, April 16, a 19-year-old woman was raped in an alleyway in St Nicholas Street in Newcastle city centre.

We believe the attack happened in an area between the Subway sandwich shop and the High Level bridge.

The attacker is described as being white, around 5ft 9ins to 6ft tall and of skinny build. He had short dark brown hair and stubble and was wearing dark blue skinny jeans and a navy coloured short sleeve T-shirt. He spoke English but not with a local accent.

Enquiries are ongoing into the incident and police are appealing for anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident and saw a man matching the description to come forward and speak to police as soon as possible.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference number 205 16/04/16.
