Police cadets in Newcastle gave up more than 100 hours of their time last week.

The 15-strong group of volunteer police cadets spent a combined 144 hours last week assisting neighbourhood policing teams in the Gosforth, Jesmond and Heaton areas of Newcastle.

They carried out reassurance patrols, passed on information to members of the public about incidents in the area and provided a positive policing presence in some key areas at key times.

Chief Inspector Steve Hails said: "For these young volunteers to have given up 100 hours of their own time - outside of school / college - in this last week is truly remarkable. It's testament to how hard working and fantastic these cadets really are.

"PC Nicola Macgregor does a brilliant job with the cadets here in central area command and she has put together a great bunch of young people who are enthusiastic about their role and really enjoy doing it.

"They are a real asset for the force to have and one that we are extremely grateful for.

"I'd like to thank everyone of these cadets for their time and dedication this last week as they have been invaluable in what has been a very busy seven days."
