Police are appealing for information after thieves target cars in Whickham.

In the early hours of Tuesday, April 26, three men were seen trying a number of car doors in Arthur Cook Avenue.

A sat nav was stolen from one vehicle in Arthur Cook Avenue and a car damaged in Crowley Road.

Around the same time a lawn-mower and a garden strimmer were also stolen from a garden shed in Hampton Court.

Enquiries are ongoing into the incidents and police are appealing for anyone with any information to contact them.

Neighbourhood Inspector Cheryl Warcup said: "Enquiries are ongoing into these incidents and I would appeal for anyone with any information to come forward and speak to us.

"We are going to have extra patrols in the areas where these incidents occurred in the coming days and would urge all residents to make sure their homes, sheds and cars are all locked and secure overnight.

"Remove anything of value from your car and store it securely inside your home. If you see anyone acting suspiciously where you live late at night or in the early hours of the morning then report it and we will check it out."
