Teenager arrested after Heaton shop robbery

Police have charged a teenage boy after an attempted robbery in Heaton.

At 5:30pm on Tuesday, April 26, a boy entered the Heaton Village store in Heaton Road and threatened a staff member with a bottle.

The staff member defended themselves and the boy left the store empty handed.

Officers responded and quickly located and arrested him nearby. During the arrest he assaulted a police officer.

A 16-year-old who is from Gosforth was subsequently charged with attempted robbery and assaulting a police officer.

He will appear at North Tyneside Magistrates Court on May 25.
