We are committed to cutting the numbers of burglaries in Newcastle and Gateshead and working with our communities to help keep them safe.
We recently launched a burglary operation aimed at getting burglars off our streets and protecting peoples' homes.
29 people (26 males and three females) have been arrested in connection with burglaries in the two areas during April thanks to the hard work of detectives, 24/7 response and neighbourhood officers
Of these 29:
- 18 have been charged with offences and will be appearing at court to face action.
- 8 have been bailed pending further enquiries.
- 2 have been released with no further action.
- 1 person was given a police caution.
Central Area Command Superintendent David Felton said: "We are committed to tackling burglary here in Newcastle and Gateshead and keeping our communities safe. Officers are constantly working and targeting those responsible for burglaries and we will not let up. We will do everything we can to keep burglars off our streets and out of peoples' homes.
"Although these figures are really positive and show that we mean business we will not lose sight that behind every number is a person, and they are our priority.
"The victims of these burglaries receive support and advice from our officers and I want to reassure everyone living in Newcastle and Gateshead that we will do all we can to protect them, their homes and remove criminals from our communities."
Burglary will remain a priority for officers in Newcastle and Gateshead for May.
