Cyclist injured in collision

Police are appealing for witnesses after a 21-year-old cyclist was injured in a collision in South Shields.

The collision happened at 11.19pm last night on the A1300 John Reid Road at the junction with Chesterton Road in South Shields.

The 21-year-old was involved in a collision with a Ford Focus. He was taken to hospital where he is currently in a critical condition.

The driver of the car was not injured.

Officers are carrying out enquiries into the collision and are appealing for witnesses.
