Police are appealing for information after four cars were set on fire in Wallsend.

At around 3.43am this morning, Wednesday, May 11, police received report of a car on fire in Holly Avenue. Officers attended and established three other cars had been damaged after being separately set on fire in the street

It's believed the fires were started deliberately and are being treated as arson.

No-one was injured, however, extensive damage was caused to the cars.

Neighbourhood Inspector Mark Storey, who covers the area, said: "If anyone was in Holly Avenue or the surrounding area last night and saw anyone acting suspiciously or anything out of the ordinary we'd urge them to contact police.

"Extra officers will be in the area to help prevent any further incidents and reassure residents. A number of enquiries are underway to identify the offender."
