Police donate cannabis farm compost to garden group in Gateshead.

On April 15th officers from the Gateshead Central Neighbourhood Policing Team carried out a search of an address in Faraday Grove in the Bensham area and discovered a cannabis farm.

Around 200 cannabis plants, lighting and heating equipment were seized by officers along with four unopened bags of compost.

The cannabis was destroyed and the heating and lighting equipment removed, however the compost bags that were found were unopened and of good quality.

So officers made the decision to make use of it and donated to the Bensham Court gardening club.

The group is for local residents of the estate to come together, socialise and improve the environment of the local area.  They were extremely grateful for the donation.

Gateshead Inspector Michael Robson said: "We were delighted to be able to offer the group the compost and hope they will be able to put it to good use with their gardening group. We are always looking for ways to help our local residents and community groups anyway we can and if we can do it while stopping drug dealers then it's all the better."
