Berwick Neighbourhood Inspector retires.

Northern Area Commander Chief Superintendent, Sharon Stavers, met with the Inspector this week to pass on her thanks on behalf of the community for the policing service of Neighbourhood Inspector, David Garrick.

Inspector Garrick has spent the last three years based in Berwick and is widely known by residents for his work in the community. Before joining the Neighbourhood Team, David spent time as a Sergeant in Morpeth and Alnwick as well as having roles within Custody, CID and Intelligence units.

Northern Area Commander, Chief Superintendent, Sharon Stavers, said: "The Neighbourhood Policing team here in Berwick is very much part of a close knit community and everyone knows Inspector Garrick and his team who have quickly become very much part of the community they police".

"David has a great deal of local knowledge and expertise which takes time to build up.  I know he will be greatly missed and will be a hard act for his replacement to follow."

"I want to thank David for his outstanding service to Northumbria and wish him every success in his future. We all wish him a very long and happy retirement."

The Mayor of Berwick-upon-Tweed, Councillor Hazel Bettison, said, "It has been a pleasure to work with Inspector Dave Garrick over the years.

"He has led his team well in providing excellent policing in Berwick.  Through his efforts Berwick remains one of the safest places to live in the country. We have excellent detection rates, through good community policing. He has always made himself available to discuss any concerns. When community events are held within the town he along with his team have supported the town in making sure the events run smoothly which helps then to promote the beautiful town we live in.

"He has been a credit to Northumbria Police, I personally will miss his calm, reassuring and caring way and wish him a long and happy retirement."

Acting Inspector Tracey Coan will temporarily replace Inspector Garrick.
