84-year-old woman robbed

Police are appealing for information after an 84-year-old woman was robbed in South Tyneside.

The incident happened on Saturday May 21 at 3.40pm. The woman was using the cash machine at HSBC in Fowler Street in South Shields when the offender attempted to take the money as it came out of the cashpoint.

A witness chased the offender who made off without the cash.

The woman was not injured in the incident but was left shaken.

Officers are carrying out enquiries and are appealing for witnesses. To help with enquiries police have released an image of a man in the area at the time who officers are keen to speak to as he may be able to help with information.
