Police are appealing for witnesses following a sexual assault in North Tyneside.

It happened between 10pm and midnight on Sunday, May 29, in Collingwood Mansions in North Shields.

A woman was in the communal area of the block of flats when a man pinned her against the wall and touched her inappropriately over clothing.  She managed to push him away.  A second man who was also there, threatened her and demanded money.  He stole some cash from her wallet and punched her in the face before the men left the scene. The woman was shocked and distressed by the incident.

Acting Inspector Stu Graham said: "We're appealing for help from the community to identify those involved in this incident. We're asking for anyone with any information to come forward and speak with officers."

Police are carrying out enquiries in the area and additional officers are on patrol to reassure the community.

Anyone with information should contact police on 101, quoting log number 491 of 30/05/16 or ring the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
