Robbery at Newcastle newsagents

Police are appealing for witnesses after a robbery in Newcastle this morning.

The robbery happened at 7am in Adelaide News in Adelaide Terrace. Two men went into the store and threatened a member of shop staff. During the robbery the shopkeeper had a substance thrown at his face.

He has attended hospital for treatment, his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The men made off with a till which has subsequently been recovered.

Officers are carrying out enquiries and are appealing for witnesses. It's believed quite a few cars passed the newsagents around the time of the incident and police are keen for any passing motorists to get in contact.
