Arrests made after city centre assault

Police appeal for information after a man was assaulted in Newcastle.

Between 8:15pm and 8:25pm on Thursday, June 9, a 26-year-old man was attacked and assaulted by two men in Nelson Street, next to the archway entrance to Stowell Street and the Chinatown area.

The victim suffered a cut to his head and facial injuries during the attack.

Two men, aged 23 and 28, were arrested on suspicion of causing GBH and have been bailed pending further enquiries.

Anyone who was in the area and who witnessed the assault is asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference number 1160 09/06/16.
