Car damaged in arson incident

Police are appealing for witnesses after a car was deliberately set on fire in North Tyneside.

It happened at 1.25am, on Monday, June 20, when the car was parked on a driveway in Wiltshire Gardens, Wallsend.

Emergency services responded and neighbouring homes were evacuated as a precaution and the fire service extinguished the fire a short time later.

The fire also damaged the front of the property next to where it was parked and caused smoke damage inside.

A 27-year-old man was treated by paramedics at the scene suffering from smoke inhalation, but did not attend hospital.

The car, a Renault Scenic was badly damaged. The cause of the fire, which is believed to have been malicious, has not yet been established.

Police are carrying out house to house enquiries and are appealing for witnesses.
