Attempted robbery in Gateshead

Police are appealing for witnesses following an attempted robbery in Gateshead.

It happened at St Oswald's Charity Shop in The Precinct, in Blaydon.

A 68-year-old woman was in the shop when she was approached by a man who tried to force her handbag from her hand.  She held on but fell to the ground and the offender made off empty handed going towards Morrison's store.

The woman was shocked and distressed but did not require medical treatment.

The man responsible is described as white, 6 feet tall, in his 40s wearing a blue top with white stripes on the chest and was wearing a cap.

Police are appealing for witnesses, anyone who was in the shop or precinct and who may have seen or heard anything suspicious is asked to contact police.
