Two men have been arrested after a number of thefts from cars in Great Park Newcastle.

In the early hours of Sunday, July 3, police received a report of two men acting suspiciously and trying car doors in Barmoor Drive on the Great Park estate.

Officers attended and two men were arrested on suspicion of theft.

A number of pairs of stolen designer glasses were found on the men and house to house enquiries were carried out at around 80 houses later that morning and the stolen property returned.

Karl Devlin, 25, of West Avenue in Westerhope was charged with theft from a motor vehicle and will appear at South East Northumberland Magistrates' Court on July 4.

The other man, aged 24, was given a police caution for theft.

Officers are urging residents in Great Park to ensure their cars are locked and secure overnight and all valuables are removed when left parked.
