On Saturday Tyne and Wear Fire & Rescue Service held an open day at Byker Fire Station.

The event was the perfect opportunity for members of the public to attend and speak with serving officers and witness different exercises involving the fire officers.

Also present at the open day was Northumbria Police who were kindly invited to take part.

Byker Neighbourhood PCSO Nathan Milner went along with three of Newcastle Area Command's Cadets.

The Cadets used the opportunity to speak to as many different people as possible about being a cadet and they even got to meet the Lord Mayor of Newcastle.

Visitors were allowed to sit behind the wheel of a protective police carrier and blast out the lights and sirens and they were able to see what it's like in the caged area at the rear of the vehicle.

There was also informative talks about the daily life of what the police do and plenty of opportunity for the cadets to offer crime prevention advice to the public.

Anyone wishing to join Northumbria Police Cadets Force can find out more information on Northumbria Police’s website.
