Post Office robbery in Gateshead

Police are appealing for witnesses following an armed robbery in Gateshead.

At 4:30pm on Monday, July 4, a man entered the Saltwell Road Post Office and threatened a staff member with a large kitchen style knife.

He demanded cash before making off with a mobile phone belonging to a staff member.

The offender is described as a being white, around 6ft tall, of slim build and was wearing a light grey sweater, dark coloured trousers and a black woollen hat.

No one was injured during the incident but staff members were left shocked.

Officers are appealing for witnesses and anyone who was in the area and who may have seen or heard anything suspicious is asked to contact police.
