Man arrested after incident on Newcastle Quayside

Police are appealing for witnesses after an incident on the Quayside in Newcastle.

At 1:44pm on Sunday, July 17, police received a report that a man had behaved in an inappropriate way towards a young girl in the area near to the Quayside beach.

The child reported this to an adult, who informed an NE1 member of staff who then contacted police.

Officers responded and a 56-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident. He has been bailed pending further enquiries.

The girl, who is thought to be around 12/13 years old had long blonde hair, left the area before police were able to speak to her and it is believed she was in the company of her grandma.

Officers want to identify and speak to these two people and are urging them to get in touch with the police as soon as possible by ringing 101 quoting reference number 654 17/07/16.

Anyone who was at the Quayside beach area today around the time of the incident and who has any information that could help us with our enquiries is also asked to get in touch.
