Man assaulted in Byker

Police are appealing for witnesses after an assault in Newcastle.

At 1:56am on Sunday, July 17, police received a report of three males fighting in the road near to Byker Bridge.

Officers attended and two males (aged 17 and 19) were arrested on suspicion of assault. The third man (aged 50) was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The arrested men have been bailed pending further enquiries.

Police believe the altercation began at the bus stop at the bottom of Northumberland Street at between 1:10am and 1:30am, before continuing near to the bridge between 1:30am and 1:56am.

There were a number of people around both locations and anyone who saw what happened is asked to ring 101 quoting reference number 157 17/07/16.
