Police are urging people in Fenham to be on the look-out for thieves after two thefts from gardens in the area.

Overnight between Sunday, July 17, and Monday, July 18, thieves stole a tent and two bikes from the back gardens of two houses in Netherby Drive.

One of the stolen bikes was recovered nearby however the other, and the tent, remain missing.

Enquiries are ongoing into the thefts and officers are urging residents in the area to take steps to avoid having their property targeted by thieves.

Inspector Alan Davison said: "Bikes can be so expensive and are a prime target for thieves, so make sure all bikes are kept somewhere secure overnight, like a shed or garage.

"Make sure they are locked or chained to something secure and get them security marked - that way if they are stolen and recovered we can return them.

"Don't leave anything of value out in gardens or out in the open overnight. Thieves are operating in the area and are looking for easy opportunities where things have been left out on show and can be taken.

"Lock your doors, your windows and report any suspicious behaviour or anyone you see hanging around to us."

Anyone with any information into the thefts is asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference number 203 180716.
