Police are appealing for witnesses after two incidents in a park in Northumberland.

They both happened on Friday afternoon, July 15, in Hirst Park in Ashington. The first at 3.20pm when two 12-year-old girls were walking through the park on the footpath behind the old Pavilion.  They were approached by an unknown male who made sexual comments to them, the girls walked away.  The second incident happened a few minutes later at 3.25pm a male made sexual comments to another 12-year-old girl.

The girls were shocked and upset by the incidents. Enquiries are ongoing into this matter and officers are appealing for information.

We have a description of the offender as white, between 14-20 years old, of average build, approximately 5 feet tall with short dark hair. He was wearing black framed mirrored sunglasses, a dark zip up hooded top with the hood up and black joggers.

Acting Neighbourhood Inspector Mick Aspey said: "We know these type of incidents do cause concern in the community and we have officers in the area carrying out enquiries in order to identify the person responsible.

"The girls were understandably shocked and upset by these comments. As the school holidays start I would like to make it clear that we will have extra officers around in our parks and please do come and raise any concerns with us."
