Walkergate Neighbourhood Policing Team will be carrying out a road safety operation around the streets of Eastbourne and Westbourne Avenue, Walker, on Wednesday July 27.

Between 6pm and 9pm that evening, officers will be carrying out speed checks and speaking with residents and motorists about the importance of road safety and sticking to existing speed limits.

At the Walkergate Ward meeting in June 2016, road safety and exceeding speed limits was highlighted as an area of concern within the community and so throughout the summer the local policing priority has been set to promote and enforce the 20mph Road Safety speed restrictions in the area.

Officers and Community Speed Watch Volunteers have been running road safety initiatives and operations in the area for some time and to date, 273 motorists have been advised after contravening the 20mph speed limit.

More information about Community Speed Watch and how you can become involved can be found on the Northumbria Police Website, or by speaking with your Neighbourhood Policing Team.
