Northumbria Police would like to thank everyone who attended the Sunderland Airshow this weekend for making the event such a huge success.

Over the past three days the airshow has taken place on the seafront at Roker and Seaburn in Sunderland. Hundreds of thousands of people have visited the site to watch the fantastic displays and enjoy the many activities on offer.

Throughout the weekend police have been at the event making sure spectators were able to enjoy the event safely. Officers have been out on patrol, speaking to spectators and getting involved.

Silver Commander for the airshow Superintendent Sarah Pitt has been based in event control right in the heart of the site overseeing the policing operation.

She said: "This year's airshow has been a huge success and we're really pleased with how the policing operation has gone and would like to thank all of those who have come down to the seafront at Seaburn and Roker over the past three days. Thanks to them we have all been able to enjoy the event and our officers have loved getting involved.

"I'd also like to thank local residents in Roker and Seaburn, we appreciate there has been some disruption over the past three days and have worked hard to keep this to an absolute minimum, the support we have from the local community is invaluable and something we really are very grateful for."
