Man in critical condition after Gateshead pub assault

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was seriously assaulted inside a Gateshead pub.

Around 4:30pm on Sunday, July 31, a 39-year-old man was assaulted in the gents toilets inside the Shakespeare pub in Split Crow Road.

He suffered serious injuries as a result of the attack.

The man has been placed in an induced coma and is in hospital in a critical but stable condition at this time.

Enquiries are ongoing into the attack and a 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of GBH and is currently in police custody.

Police are appealing for anyone who was in the Shakespeare pub at the time of the incident and who might be able to help with enquiries to contact them on 101 quoting reference number 1128 31/07/16.
