Taxi driver racially abused

Police are appealing for information after a taxi driver was racially abused.

The incident happened around 3.30am on Saturday July 2. The taxi driver was taking a group of people who he had picked up in Newcastle back to Sunderland. During the journey as they were passing through Boldon a female passenger became racially abusive to the taxi driver. He continued driving for a short time before he stopped and asked the customers to get out. The woman then spat in his face.

She is described as white, late 20s and was wearing a cream coloured hoodie.

PC Janet Robinson said: "We will not tolerate racial abuse, or any other form of hate crime, and when this is reported to us we will do everything we can to make sure action is taken against those who are responsible."
