Woman robbed in Byker

Police are appealing for witnesses after a robbery in Newcastle.

At 10:30am on Monday, August 1, a 66-year-old woman was approached by a man in Grafton Street in Byker who asked for directions.

He then tried to steal her bag but the woman put up a struggle. He punched her in the face before stealing her necklace.

The woman wasn't seriously injured by what happened but was left shaken.

The offender is described as being Asian, in his 20s and of slim build. He is around 5ft 2ins tall and had a wispy beard. He was wearing a dark jacket, a black baseball cap and was carrying a black rucksack,
