Police investigate death in North Tyneside

Police have been continuing to carry out enquiries into the death of a 68-year-old man in Collingwood Road in Wellfield.

Mr Ian Hardy’s body was discovered on Friday, July 29, at his home.

Following an investigation police are not seeking anyone else in relation to this death.

Our thoughts are with his family at this time.

A file is being prepared for the coroner.

Saturday, July 30, 9pm 

Police are continuing their enquiries into the death of a man in North Tyneside.

At 11.18pm last night (Friday, July 29) police were informed the body of a 68-year-old man had been found in a property in Collingwood Road in Wellfield.

Police and paramedics attended and the man was pronounced at the scene.

The death is currently being treated as unexplained and a forensic post mortem this afternoon with to assist in establishing the cause of death.

Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector John Bent, said: "This death is currently being treated as unexplained and the purpose of our invetigation is to find out what has caused this man's death. At the current time we are keeping an open mind as to what has happened but we do believe this is an isolated incident and there is not thought to be any risk to the wider public."

Police are investigating the death of a man in North Tyneside.

At 11.18pm last night (Saturday, July 30) police were informed the body of a man had been found in a property in Collingwood Road in Wellfield.

The  man, aged in his 60s, was found with a stab injury. A post mortem will be carried out later today.

Enquiries are on-going to establish the circumstances of the death.

Two people - a woman in her 70s and man in his 30s - are initially assisting with enquiries

Extra officers are in the area to carry out enquiries and speak with local residents as well as offer reassurance to those who are concerned.

Detective Chief Inspector John Bent said: "We're carrying out enquiries in order to establish the circumstances leading up to this man's death. We currently have two people assisting with our enquiries.

"Extra officers will be in the area as we carry out enquiries, they are also there to offer reassurance to our communities and I would urge anyone who is concerned to please speak to them"
